Hama'abada (The Lab)
The story of the development of the city of Jerusalem is often the
tale of a single person possessed of a vision and the wherewithal to
make it a reality. David turned it into the capital of Judea, Suleiman
built the Old City's majestic walls, Moses Montefiore's deep pockets
established what would become west Jerusalem and, in the modern era,
venture capitalist Erel Margalit is making sure that Jerusalem becomes
a destination for not just its historic and religious value, but for
its rich artistic life.
To that end, he established The
Jerusalem Performing Arts Lab, better known as Hama'abada, in an
abandoned warehouse at Jerusalem's old train station. Originally
intended to incubate local talent, the Lab now draws both relatively
unknown Israeli musicians and headlining international acts looking for
a venue cozier than the massive Ramat Gan Stadium.
The Lab also
sponsors and develops multiple events in other media, including dance,
theater, traditional art and video art. Increase your enjoyment with a
drink from the bar.
