The Way of The Cross - Station 3
Station Three – Via Dolorosa - Jesus Falls for the First Time At this point, Jesus falls for the first time under the weight of the cross. Marking the third station is an Armenian-Catholic Church. It was built in the 15th century and was renovated in 1947 thanks to donations given by Polish soldiers stationed in mandatory Palestine during the Second World War.
This Church commemorates where it is believed Jesus fell for the first time under the weight of the Cross. After his fall, Jesus is unable to stand on his feet and the legionnaires use their whips in order and force him to stand on his feet. Jesus continues. Today, the site of this event is identified as the Hospice junction, where an Armenian- Catholic Church was built in 1947 with donations from Polish soldiers stationed in mandatory Palestine during the Second World War. A stone relief over the church door depicts the event.
